There is a long-standing myth (mainly perpetuated by Mazda UK franchised main dealers) that an imported MX-5 is somehow built differently to a UK specification MX-5, using different parts. In actual fact, ALL MX-5s are, and always have been, built in the same factory in Hiroshima IN JAPAN. They are not manufactured, or assembled anywhere else in the World.

All MX-5s are fundamentally the same, whether they were originally manufactured for the Japanese domestic market (and subsequently become a “used import”) or for the UK market. Even the steering wheel is on the same side! It would be pointless for Mazda to produce completely different cars for the UK market. Therefore all the spare parts will fit either car.

Having said that, there are some minor differences between the models (e.g. indicator switch on opposite side), but all parts for either UK or Import models are readily available from all Mazda UK main dealers.
