| What is the difference between an Imported MX-5 and a UK MX-5? |
|
All MX-5s have been built on the same production line in Hiroshima, Japan and there is virtually no difference between cars meant for the Japanese market and those sent to the UK. The only outwardly visible difference on Mk1 cars is a slightly different shape rear number plate holder, high level brake light and “Eunos” badges. The main difference between them is that imported MX-5s are ALWAYS in much better condition than their British equivalent. This is because used Japanese MX-5s tend to be lower mileage and the climate is kinder (they do not use salt on the roads in winter in Japan) so the cars are totally corrosion free. (See Import versus UK car) There are probably ten times more MX-5s for us to choose from in Japan than here, so there is no need to look at the higher mileage cars that have had a hard life – there’s plenty of good ones to go at! In addition, imported models normally come with all the “extras” fitted as standard, such as: air-conditioning, power steering, electric windows, headrest speakers, alloys, etc. |
