MX5 City Racing Season 2006

Anglesey Meeting 25/ 26 th March 2006

The first race meeting of 2006, a non-championship three-race affair at Anglesey Circuit, North Wales proved to be very successful for the MX5 City Racing Team.

Despite atrocious weather conditions – high winds and heavy downpours of horizontal rain – the car performed impeccably with no mechanical problems presenting from the new engine. Let's hope it continues for the remainder of the season!

Due to the championship organiser's late decision on tyres for this season, the new Toyo tyres did not arrive in time for the meeting and we were running on worn out tyres from last season which were virtually slicks – not the best choice for a very wet track – which meant it was difficult to get any power down without the back end sliding all over the place. Standing water on the track at the end of the straight before the hair-pin made for some very scary moments as the car aquaplaned sideways towards the tyre-wall on several occasions.

Fortunately Martin managed to avoid any contact during the three races and kept the car on the tarmac to achieve his best ever results of 7 th in the first race, followed by a third place in both the second and third race.

The next race is at Mallory Park on 23 rd April, but we will be out testing the car with the new Toyo tyres at Mallory on Friday 14 th April.
