#ThrowbackThursday- What Model Do I Have??

This is something we actually get asked a lot, especially with the later models. The later model 1998 and onwards only have a slight difference, compared to the vast difference between the Mk1 and the later models. If you click on the drop down menu on our website and click on the Mk1 you have it will go into further detail and difference between the limited editions.

Mazda MX-5 NA 1989>1998 MK1

The first generation of MX-5’s sold over 400,000 units and was sold from 1989-1998. The first generation models can be referred to as MK1’s or NA which is the model chassis number.

NA is used on the Eunos Features and information standard MX-5 Mk1 (NA) model: • Pop up headlights

• UK versions were only available with a 1.6 litre 114 bhp engine from 1990-1993

• 1.8 litre 130 bhp engines replaced the 1.6 litre engine in UK from 1993-1995

• From 1995-1998 both 1.6 litre and 1.8 litre engines were produced and supplied and a 1.8i was also released featuring ABS, Electric mirror’s, airbags and power steering with the basic model.

• Japanese imports have the chassis number NA and UK versions have JMZ NA as a chassis number. Although still widely referred to as the NA Model

• Imported models that were originally sold in Japan are Eunos models and in America they are sold as Miata’s.

Mazda MX-5 NB 1998>2005 MK2/2.5

The next generation is known as the mark to or NB model. The main thing Mazda changed from the Mk1 was that they used fixed headlights with a separate chamber for the bulbs within the lamp. They used the same more or less the same engine as the Mk1 offering an 110bhp 1.6 litre engine and a 140bhp 1.8 litre. They gave it upgrades such as heated rear windscreen, remote boot opener and airbags.

Mazda MX-5 NC 2005-2015 Mk3/3.5

The Mk3/NC was a complete redesign and was made longer, wider, and taller. They used a lightweight aluminium MRZ engine and also used it for the boot lid, bonnet and engine subframe. The Mk3.5 was launched in 2009 with a bigger front grille and redesigned with almost oval shaped front fog lights. Available in: • Standard 1800cc & 2000cc • 2000cc Sport Tech came with limited slip diff and Bilstein sports suspension • 2000cc Power Shift.

Mazda MX-5 ND 2015> Mk4

You will definitely know if you have the Mk4 as it is hot off of the forecourts!

The MX-5 has the KODO design lines which are sleek and powerful yet have tension in all the right places. The beauty of this car is very animalistic from the gaping mouthed grille to the Aston Martin-esque front bumper vents making the car look raring to go.
